Greetings!

Developing for the enterprise is not an easy venture.  The amount of technical knowledge and know-how a team needs is rather outstanding.  It is simply not enough for one to be proficient, or even a guru, in a programming language and be able to efficiently create enterprise systems.  In today’s world valuable team members should have good understandings of multiple UI technologies, services, databases, design patterns, testing, etc.

Additionally, good members will often be required to use and understand agile methodologies, develop deep domain understanding of the systems they build, create good user stories, and communicate effectively both with team members and people who have trouble turning on a computer, and more.

In short, good enterprise developers need to know a lot, and better ones know continuous learning is a key to success.

My attempt with this blog is to help provide my knowledge, and my knowledge to come, with others developing enterprise systems.  Due to the nature of complexity in enterprise systems I feel that it would be best to communicate through a long running example.  The Great Library project will be this example.  I’ll start at square one, nothing but an idea, and build it up.  The project is open source and can be found on CodePlex at http://thegreatlibrary.codeplex.com/.
